Training Board is about…

Weightlifting, nutrition, paleolithic and "Zone" dieting, weight loss, my workouts, and reflections and reviews of various related topics that interest me. But mostly, I just use this blog to track my workouts.

If anything I have posted seems useful to you, let me know with a comment.

About Me

I'm a level I "sports performance certified" USAW coach, and I train, and work as an assistant coach at Asheville Strength and Conditioning, a great little gym here in Asheville, N.C.

I work with clients who want to get strong and fit, and specialize in helping older, detrained individuals reclaim their fitness and youthful athleticism.

Also, it should be said that I used to train with, and still love many of the folks down at CrossFit Asheville. A lot of the older portions of this blog deals with CrossFit and reflects my earlier fascination with CrossFit's "fitness as sport" model of training. I've learned a lot from CrossFit since I first discovered it, back in late 2008, even though my own training is now more focused on developing pure strength and capacity in the basic strength lifts.

Worst. Cheat. Day. Ever.

All month long I wait for my “cheat day” to come along. And then I go and blow it eating a bunch of useless, tasteless crap. From which I deduce that the Paleo-Zone pretty much ruins a persons chances of ever enjoying normal (i.e. crappy) food again.

Is It Paleo? \• September 15, 2009

Yeah, but is it Paleo? Black Beans

Tackling the question: are Black Beans acceptable on the Paleolithic diet? The answer is, it depends on how flexible you are feeling. And how the beans are prepared.

Good Cheating in Good Conscience

A planned cheat day falls on Labor Day Weekend, and I have a blast, leading me to reflect on the virtues of cheating on your Paleo-Zone diet.

Preschool

A rest day. Taking Lena to preschool in a few minutes. Myself, working on class prep for tomorrow. Fitness I’m in good shape. Actually, at 40+ years old, I’m now in the best shape of my life. I weigh about 180 lbs, at 13% body fat, and am stronger and faster than I’ve ever been. [...]

Never on a School Night

I take stock of my present situation, as I get ready to begin Fall Semester of the 2009-2010 school year, and present a plan for achieving my fitness goals going forward.
